The Pir Ghaib Waterfalls are located in the Bolan Valley in Balochistan, Pakistan, 70 kilometres (43 miles) from Quetta. A waterfall rushes down the steep mountainside, passing through numerous streams and ponds as it winds its way through the shady palm palms.
According to legend, Pir Ghaib and his sister, the venerable Bibi Nani, came here in the early days of Islam to convert the inhabitants. The fire worshippers, on the other hand, dispatched an army to pursue the holy couple. The siblings split up at the Bolan gorge; Bibi Nani proceeded down the gorge (her reported tomb is 15 km downstream under a bridge), while her brother ran into the parched countryside with the army closing in. When the saint reached the gorge's head and realised he was trapped by the rock wall, he prayed to the Almighty for help. To receive the holy man, he cleaved the rock. As a result, he was dubbed Pir Ghaib - The Invisible Saint.
Pir Ghaib is revered as Mahadev by the local Hindus. Travellers and traders from the Indus Valley would have halted at this spring sacred to their own gods on the first leg of their lengthy journey to Mesopotamian marts long before the Bolan gorge rang with Vedic melodies or invocations of the Pir Ghaib. The Pir Ghaib descended from an older Indus Valley god, just as the Vedic God Shiva did from an earlier Indus Valley deity, and the 5000-year-old goddess Nania evolved into Bibi Nani or Durga. We won't know who from this pantheon was praised for walking into rock barriers until the Indus writing is deciphered.
This place is good for few hours picnic however there is no facility available beside a general shop, therefore families may need to bring food from home.
